Jac Eagle 2008-2012

The JAC Eagle was introduced to Egypt following the huge success achieved by the Chinese company JAC in Egypt for a certain period. The Eagle was unveiled in 2011 during the Formula Al Ahram Exhibition, but it had previously been introduced in 2008, 2009, and 2010 in Egypt as imported vehicles before being introduced in 2011 as a local assembly vehicle. It continued for a limited period and became popular in the 2011 and 2012 models. Its price started at 119,900 Egyptian pounds, followed by 135,000 Egyptian pounds for the manual transmission and 150,000 Egyptian pounds for the automatic transmission. It is a Chinese-made car, and the first batch was imported before assembly began in Egypt by the Arab Organization for Industrialization and AAV through the company's agent at the time, Horse Motors. The car was compared to models such as the Renault Duster and Chery Tiggo. It's a powerful, off-road vehicle.

The car has a distinctive exterior, but without any unique differences. It features a well-designed interior, power windows, a central locking system, rear sensors, digital air conditioning, tinted rear windows, and leather upholstery. It's considered a modified version of the Hyundai Santa Fe, with a taillight design similar to that of a Lexus.

Reviews - Jac Eagle 2008-2012

Motor

80%

The locally manufactured Eagle comes with a powerful, advanced 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 130 hp and 175 Nm of torque. It is mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. It has a 70-liter fuel tank and achieves an average fuel consumption rate of 8 liters per 100 km. The car is equipped with four-wheel drive, similar to the Hyundai Santa Fe engine. The car's top speed is 160 km/h.

Imported versions were offered in Egypt with a 2.4-liter, manual engine. There are no complaints about the car's engine in Egypt, and its performance is good, as confirmed by its owners. The only drawbacks are the large engine size and high fuel consumption.

The Eagle can comfortably seat five people, making it a family-friendly SUV thanks to its long wheelbase of 2,620 mm, length of 4,500 mm, width of 1,875 mm, and height of 1,730 mm. It features a large trunk and foldable rear seats to accommodate large items. The car features large door openings and a comfortable seating position for all seats, especially the multi-position driver's seat. It is also equipped with a CD radio sound system with six speakers and an air conditioner with automatic temperature control and chrome vents. The car's interior design is unimaginative and its materials are not of the highest possible quality, and some consider the fit and finish to be poor.

Spare Parts

50%

The main problem with the car is the availability of spare parts, which are scarce and not widely available, given the car's limited popularity, with limited quantities available from certain dealers at moderate prices. Some spare parts are compatible with certain Hyundai models, whether the Santa Fe or the Elantra.

Suspension

90%

The car features an independent MacPherson strut suspension at the front to improve stability, in addition to a double wishbone suspension with shock absorbers, which was new to the car market at the time it was introduced. The car's ground clearance is 207 mm, which makes it significantly higher off the ground and makes it easy to handle Egyptian roads, bumps, bridge joints, and holes. It also handles air humps well. The car's suspension is excellent and provides it with good stability on the road despite its height off the ground.

Resale

30%

The car's resale value is considered weak in Egypt, as it is one of the most undervalued cars in the country, despite its owners claiming it is a good car. The car's limited availability in Egypt is due to a lack of trust in the JAC brand as a Chinese company, at a time when Chinese cars failed to gain the trust of Egyptian buyers due to the weak dealerships at the time of its launch and their lack of sustainability.

Although the car's price is highly competitive, it has not achieved significant success compared to its competitors, who have outperformed it. Some have tried to compare it to the Renault Duster and Chery Tiggo, but they are certainly more durable than the car, as they still offer strong dealerships and have very strong resale value. It has also been compared to the Mahindra, and it can be argued that the Mahindra, despite its lack of longevity, had a better resale value. The car's large 2000cc engine, which makes its licensing, taxes, and fees expensive, is also a drawback, as is its high fuel consumption, which has limited its reach in Egypt to begin with, making its sales weak and its resale value limited.
