Hyundai Matrix 2001-2008

The Hyundai Matrix is an MPV. A compact family car based on the third-generation Hyundai Elantra, the Matrix began production in 2001 and continued in its first generation until 2010. However, it retained its famous old form until 2008. The car was designed by Pininfarina with rounded bodywork. It was updated in 2005 with engine upgrades, and in 2008, it was updated again with simple design touches, including the front end, headlights, grille, and bumpers. This car competes with models such as the Honda Jazz, Kia Carens, Mazda 2, Nissan Note, Opel Meriva, Skoda Roomster, and Toyota Yaris Verso. The car was offered in Egypt from 2001 to 2007 as a Korean-made car. Then, in 2008, it was manufactured in Turkey. The car's appearance was changed to the more modern version with the 2009 model.

The car was available globally with three engines: a 1600cc with 103 hp, an 1800cc with 122 hp, and a 1500cc 3-cylinder diesel with 82 hp. When it comes to fuel efficiency, the original engines aren't good enough. The 1.6-liter gasoline engine achieves 35.4 mpg and 191 g/km of carbon emissions. Pre-2008 models came with older, less efficient engines. A new 1.6-liter gasoline engine was introduced in 2008, which is more refined and efficient in terms of fuel economy. The car was introduced in Egypt with a 1600cc 4-cylinder engine. This is a powerful engine that delivers good performance, but its traction is not strong, especially with passengers in the car. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 12.7 seconds. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission, making it a fuel-efficient car.

The transmission seems to be problematic at times, and electrical issues are also a concern, with several faults reported. You can expect some squealing noises, as the engine sound is annoying at high speeds.

It's a spacious car that can accommodate four passengers, including the driver. The rear seat can accommodate three, although legroom for adults is tight. The rear bench swivels, although it's not removable.

The driver's driving position is good, and all controls are well-positioned, especially the gearshift, which is mounted high on the center console. All-round visibility is good, and the Matrix is easy to maneuver. There's nothing wrong with the quality and design of the car other than the materials. In the cabin, there are plastic parts made of a less-than-sturdy dashboard, and the materials used in the cabin are average, not high-quality. The car isn't in line with more modern competitors.

The trunk has a capacity of 340 liters, and the rear bench can be pushed forward to increase the trunk's volume, in addition to being foldable. Wind noise becomes annoying on highways, which confirms the cabin's poor insulation.

Spare Parts

80%

Maintenance of the car does not cost much and the spare parts are common and cheap so it is easy to obtain and install them and they are widely available in the market like the rest of Hyundai cars and the car’s defects and faults are limited and include faults in the brake pads but its maintenance is easy although there are some complaints about the difficulty of working on the engine due to the narrowness of the engine sump and complaints of excessive heat that occurs in the car but the vast majority see it as a car with limited faults.

Suspension

50%

There is a lack of stability in the car when turning and at high speeds due to its height and elevation next to the rear hatchback, and the car is somewhat raised from the ground by 16 cm, which protects it from friction with road bumps. It is relatively comfortable for long-distance travel, although its suspension is not very flexible, which means that sitting inside it is not completely comfortable, especially on unpaved roads, but it improves at high speeds.

Resale

The car has a strong resale value and is still in demand in the market. Its prices are good and distinct for those who want to sell their cars. Among the points in favor of its strong resale value are its few breakdowns and its spacious interior as a family car. Despite its undesirable appearance, it is still in demand in the used car market despite the presence of newer cars. It is a suitable car for families, practical and comfortable to drive at the same time.

It includes front airbags, seat belts, central locking, fog lights, ABS brakes, and an alarm. However, some of its body parts, especially the doors, are weak, and they are not completely stable. Its brakes are good, but not completely strong. The Korean and Gulf versions have increased safety features by cutting off the car's electricity to prevent theft and automatically locking the center console at a speed of 45 km/h.

The Egyptian version of the car comes with a number of features depending on the version, including good air conditioning, electric windows, a CD player, an alarm, power steering, electric mirrors, 15-inch rims, a glasses case, two driver's lights next to the salon light with the door opening, and the higher version has a sunroof, a rear window wiper, a spoiler, an original alarm, and body-colored mirrors.

The Korean or Gulf version comes with more luxuries, including a sunroof, a rear spoiler, a rear wiper, strong air conditioning, two pulleys for changing the seat position, a rear armrest with two cup holders, and a remote control.
