Geely Englon 2010-2011

The Geely Englon SC7 was introduced to Egypt as a compact sedan suitable for families in 2010, making its debut at the Formula Al Ahram Exhibition and then at the subsequent Automac Exhibition. It also became popular in 2011, and Geely Englon is known as a subsidiary of Geely's Maple brand. Initially, it was named the Maple SL-1, then the Shanghai Englon SC618, and finally the Englon SC7. Englon is one of Geely's brands and was introduced as part of Geely's earlier plan to combine several brands under the parent company's umbrella, creating a multi-brand company. These brands included Englon, Emgrand, and other brands such as SMA and Maple, each with its own logo and cars.

The Englon was launched in the Egyptian market with only one trim, priced at EGP 74,900, and the price later increased to EGP 79,900. The car didn't last long in Egypt, and its local sale was discontinued a few years later. It also came with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and was sold by Abu Ghali Auto and Horse Motors. The car features an exterior design similar to the Mercedes S-Class, both front and rear, with elegant headlights and taillights. The car also boasts smooth, flowing lines that convey a sense of agility and power at the same time. The front of the car features a simple, elegant grille and distinctive fog lamp design, along with nickel door handles, turn signals on the mirrors, aluminum rims, and 16-inch tires.

Motor

The Geely Englon is powered by a 1.5-liter, 16-valve, CVVT, 4-cylinder engine with Toyota technology and a DOHC double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine producing 118 hp at 6,000 rpm. Some claim the actual output was 106 hp, not the 118 hp claimed by the dealer. It also produces 135 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, and has a top speed of 180 km/h. The Geely Englon also boasts a low fuel consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 km.

The car offers strong and distinctive performance. It is a Chinese-assembled car with a unique engine technology and is not related to Toyota or Lancer engines, as some have rumored. The engine offers higher horsepower with a smaller displacement, combining its ability to generate outstanding horsepower with good fuel economy. The engine is capable of generating horsepower between 6,000 and 6,200 rpm, as well as a relatively reasonable torque of 135 Nm at 4,800 rpm. The engine delivers adequate performance and low fuel consumption thanks to CVVT technology and the electronic multi-point injection system, which allows this engine to consume an average of only 4.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. Power is transmitted to the front wheels. Initially, the car suffered from poor traction, but after getting underway, its performance improves and it can reach speeds approaching 200 km/h (124 mph). Otherwise, there are no general complaints about the car's engine or performance, which is considered good and suitable.

The Geely Englon is a spacious car, but it's less spacious than some Chinese competitors in its class. The car is 4,682 mm long, 1,725 mm wide, and 1,485 mm high. It has a 2,602 mm wheelbase and a 560-liter trunk. These dimensions and wheelbase provide good interior space, but less than other cars. Seating is comfortable, and the trunk is spacious.

The most common complaint from owners is the poorly designed gauges, which obstruct visibility. Owners also disagreed on the dashboard design, with some loving it and others hating it. As for the air conditioning, owners agreed that it was powerful and did not affect traction or performance. While some have criticized the car's interior materials, the Englon SC7 boasts a simple, uncomplicated cabin that offers a wide range of features, including a CD player that can play MP3 formats, automatic air conditioning with a touchscreen, a central locking system with remote control, a digital instrument panel for clear visibility, electric front and rear window controls, and a power steering system. The car's materials aren't always to my liking, as the dashboard is made of two-tone plastic.

Spare Parts

50%

Spare parts for the Geely Englon are scarce, but they are available for import at reasonable prices. Exterior parts are less readily available than interior parts, and maintenance is not widely available except among specialists, especially in Tawfikia and craftsmen. Some spare parts can be replaced with Toyota, Geely Emgrand, and BYD F3 parts.

Many car owners and experts advise against these types of cars. Even if they are generally good, spare parts are a problem and difficult to find. Despite the presence of groups and several shops that sell spare parts, they are not widely available, and their prices are not as high as those of other popular Chinese cars.

Suspension

80%

The car features a soft suspension while driving, and with its good ground clearance, it can handle Egyptian roads comfortably. Its excellent suspension provides good stability on the ground. There have been no complaints or problems with the car's suspension among car owners in Egypt.

Resale

60%

Resale of the Geely Englon is limited, but it has a market and demand despite rumors about numerous transmission problems and overheating. There is a tendency to avoid buying such cars due to their scarcity and difficulty selling them, along with their low price due to the lack of demand for them. The main reason for this is the complete cessation of the car and brand in Egypt, despite the continuation of Geely. However, these models were part of the Maple, then an independent brand, and both were discontinued. The first batches of the car did not last long despite the demand for them.

Security

80%

Safety in the Geely Angel is good. Although it hasn't been tested like its Chinese counterparts, it does have:

Two front airbags.

Rear parking sensors.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).

An advanced alarm system with Guide Me Home technology, which keeps the lights on for a pre-set period to guide the driver through dark areas until they reach home.

Light sensors automatically turn on the headlights when the sun sets and night falls.

A solid bumper support.

These features are considered essential and provide a minimum level of safety in the modern era, but there are many other safety features missing from the car, which is normal at the time of its introduction. 2010.
