Fiat Ritmo 1987-1994

The Fiat Ritmo was produced between 1978 and 1982 and remained in production until 1988. Known as the Fiat Strada in Britain, Canada, and the United States, it was a small family car that debuted at the 1978 Turin Motor Show with Breton-style styling. It featured a front-wheel drive system borrowed from the Fiat 128. It was a stylish and affordable car that competed with Ford and Renault at the time. The car was offered with various lower-powered engines, but this was addressed in the Ritmo Super version. The Ritmo sold approximately 1,790,000 units. The car was further developed in 1985, appearing in a new version that addressed some of the shortcomings of the previous version. It featured dual headlights and was more suitable for regattas in terms of spare parts and components, so it was called the Ritmo Regatta. The car was manufactured in Germany and Italy, and there is a version manufactured in Egypt. This car achieved large sales in Egypt, but not as much as the 128 sales due to its hatchback size. However, at the same time, it is considered an easy car to operate in traffic and find a parking space. Our talk will be about the older Ritmo, from models 1978 to 1984.

The car was offered with different engines in the world, the most famous of which are the 1100 cc, 1300 cc and 1500 cc engines. The first engine, a 1100cc, was a 4-cylinder with 61 hp at 5,800 rpm and 81 Nm of torque. The car reached a top speed of 145 km/h, accelerated to 100 km/h in 17.1 seconds, and achieved a fuel consumption of 8.0 liters per 100 km. It was available with a 4-speed manual transmission.

The 1300cc engine produced 66 hp at 5,800 rpm, 98 Nm of torque, accelerated in 15.3 seconds, and reached a top speed of 150 km/h. It also achieved a fuel consumption of 9 liters per 100 km. It was available with a 4-speed manual transmission.

The 1500cc engine was a 4-cylinder with 76 hp at 5,800 rpm, CO2 emissions of 118 g/km, a top speed of 159 km/h, fuel consumption of 8.6 liters per 100 km, and a 4-speed manual transmission.

The car is known for its fuel economy and features a powerful engine. Available in Egypt are the 1300 cc and 1500 cc engines, providing more engine options than the 128. It also has smoother traction and better engine performance, and everyone who has tested or owned the car praises its engine, power, and performance.

The car is 3.940 meters long, 1.651 meters wide, and 1.4 meters high with a wheelbase of 2.449 meters and a rear storage capacity of 368 liters, which is reflected in the spaciousness of the car's interior, which is considered spacious and surpasses cars such as the 128 and 127. The interior also comes with better-looking meters and a dashboard than the 128 models. Although the car's interior is spacious, it is preferable that no more than 4 people ride in it, including the driver, due to the weak suspension, but in the end, it is a car with a good interior that is comfortable in terms of seating and materials.

Spare Parts

60%

Spare parts for the car are available in the market, although not as readily available as those for the 128 and 127 models, and are somewhat more expensive. The car is also known for its low standard of accessories and is easy to maintain, just like the 128, with no maintenance issues due to its technicians' knowledge and experience.

Suspension

20%

The chassis and suspension are considered the weak point of the car. Because the car is on cables, one of its most common defects is cracks in the chassis. As with other Fiat cars, it needs an iron tie placed on both ends of the car above the engine or at the bottom of the car to strengthen the chassis. The car is also not firmly planted on the ground, especially at high speeds, as it can float due to its driver. Another defect is that the outer sheet metal body is weak. The weakness of the car's suspension is clearly visible on unpaved roads and bumps. There is a consensus that cracks occur in the car's suspension or chassis due to the weight of the engine on it, and the main treatment for this is a tensioner.

Resale

The car's drawback is also the difficulty of reselling it compared to the 128 and 127 models, especially because of its hatchback shape, which is not preferred by a large segment of Egyptians who prefer the sedan shape of the 128, which makes its trunk larger. It is also difficult for young people to make modifications to the car to meet their desires, like the 128, but the models manufactured starting from 1985 avoided many of the defects and are considered better in condition and quality, but they are weaker in sales despite that due to their price. The car remains one of the heavy cars in resale due to the lack of great demand for it and its previous defects.
