Daewoo Zaz 2001-2005

ZAZ Slavuta cars were introduced to Egypt in 2004 through Abu Simbel Trading Company, which first introduced the Ukrainian car to the Egyptian market. The small, four-door sedan was known for its low price and suitability for the economic situation of Egyptian families.

Various ZAZ cars, both Slavuta and Tavria, were sold in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. Some people in Egypt identified the car as the Daewoo ZAZ after the Korean company purchased it in 1998. It was manufactured alongside the Lanos sedan and achieved great popularity in Ukraine. Production continued until 2011, but it only continued in Egypt for a limited number of years, approximately from 2001 to 2005.

It was introduced in Egypt with Daewoo for a period, when it launched the Tavria models, but they did not achieve significant success. The same applies to the ZAZ Slavuta model, which was introduced by another dealer because there was no market or spare parts for it, and the car's design was poor and outdated.

This car was introduced in Egypt with a 1200 cc, 4-cylinder, 8-valve engine with 58 hp at 5500 rpm and 9.5 kg m of torque at 3000 rpm. It accelerates in 16 seconds and comes with another 1300cc engine with 66 hp. This is a 4-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection. Its price started at 37,900 Egyptian pounds when it was first launched. Its engine is considered better than 1000cc engines, but it isn't powerful and doesn't help the car run fast. However, according to its owners in Egypt, it can travel normally. The car is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

The car's engine saves fuel, consuming 320 km per gallon, or one liter per 16 km, which is a very economical rate. It can also run on 80-octane gasoline. It has a 38-liter fuel tank, but its towing is slow, and its top speed does not exceed 150 km/h.

The car's manufacturer claims it has a spacious interior, but in reality, it seats four passengers. The car is 3.980 meters long, 1.578 meters wide, and 1.320 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.320 meters long, and the car weighs 790 kg. The trunk holds 300 liters, providing good loading capacity and a low loading sill for easy loading. However, in the end, the car's interior is cramped and not spacious.

However, the car's interior comes with many plastic fittings, and average-height passengers will not feel very comfortable in it. The interior plastics in the cabin and dashboard creak with use. The driver's seat is uncomfortable, and the exterior mirrors are small.

Spare Parts

The prices of spare parts for the car when it was launched were 35% cheaper than the prices of spare parts for other cars, according to what the company said at that time. However, after its launch and until now, it can be said that there are no spare parts available for it, and the car owners are requisitioning spare parts for it from other brands such as Lada, Citroen, and 128. Other external spare parts for it can also be imported, such as lights and others, and places to sell its spare parts are rare in Egypt.

Suspension

The car is known for its solidity and strength to handle Egyptian roads and unpaved roads, in addition to its suitability for the weather conditions in Egypt, its flexibility in driving, and its high ground clearance of 16.5 cm. The car comes with an independent McPherson suspension in the front and a semi-independent radial suspension in the rear, but the car's stability is not good at high speeds and on sharp curves, and some suspension parts cannot withstand heavy service, especially in the rear part, and they need to be replaced constantly.

Resale

It has almost no resale value in Egypt. It's not a well-known car in the first place, and there's no sales market or demand for it. Also, the number of available models in Egypt is very small, and its spare parts are scarce. Therefore, it can be said that only a few owners of this car would recommend buying it in the used market.

On the other hand, regardless of the availability of spare parts, the car's design is poor and unattractive. It's merely a means of transportation, without any aesthetic appeal or luxury.
