Toyota Corolla 2000-2007

The Toyota Corolla, also known as the Camel, is one of the most distinctive cars that owners confirm to be their favorite. Available in Egypt from 2000 to 2007, the ninth generation is described as highly reliable and a good car. It is considered one of the most praised models by car owners and enthusiasts in Egypt, who confirm that it is virtually faultless and maintains long-term operation without any problems. The car's design remains modern and distinctive, and it cannot be said that it has become outdated. Design differences have appeared in this generation of the car itself, primarily in the shape of the front grille, while the engines, chassis, and suspension remain the same. The car featured a sharper design and more 21st-century technology. It was sold in Japan, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Production of the car ceased in Japan in January 2007, while production continued in North America until October 2007. The Toyota Corolla Camel was sold in Egypt at the time of its launch, with prices starting at 102,000 Egyptian pounds.

Motor

The Corolla Camel features a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 92 hp and 13.3 kg-m of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels. The car's fuel economy is also impressive, and the air conditioning doesn't significantly impact traction and torque. Another 1.6-liter engine, introduced in 2004 for the first time, produces 110 hp at 6,000 rpm. It's a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, twin-overhead camshaft VVT-i engine with a torque of 146 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The engine uses multi-point gasoline injection. The car has a top speed of 175 km/h, accelerates in 11.8 seconds, and consumes 7.8 liters of fuel per 100 km. The car is also available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, along with front-wheel drive. However, the car's drawback is that it can't reach a top speed above 160 km/h, and trying to press the accelerator pedals more effectively makes the car's sound annoying, according to owners.

The Corolla Camel has a distinctive length of 4.39 meters, a width of 1.695 meters, a height of 1.47 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.6 meters. The wide base and the additional height provide ample space for the driver and passengers in the front and rear, making the front passenger and passengers in the rear enjoy the ride in the car. With the modern design, more space is available, with distinctive additional head and legroom even in the rear seats, with a height of 970 mm and 896 mm available for the legs. There is enough seating space for five adults with three-point seat belts and headrests for each seat. The rear seats can be folded 60:40, and there's plenty of extra luggage space in the trunk.

The Corolla's cabin offers high levels of illumination and clear visibility in all directions for all passengers, thanks to the car's large glass areas, which put the driver in complete control.

The cabin also features sporty-designed seats that accommodate both the driver and passengers, a large dashboard with gauges, and a distinctive, compact center console, providing more space for front passengers. The interior exudes luxury with ebony touches. Attention to detail has been paid to the interior's design, ensuring a harmonious and integrated feel, in addition to the good quality of the soft-touch materials, especially on the steering wheel. However, the cabin's cassette deck and the somewhat sparse dashboard are flaws.

Spare Parts

70%

Toyota Corolla spare parts are plentiful and readily available, at moderate prices. They are also easy to repair and upgrade. Chinese or Taiwanese spare parts are available, and their prices are moderate, unlike German cars. They are also more expensive than Korean ones. They are also well insulated and are resistant to rust or corrosion.

Finding technicians to handle the car is easy because it is an old and popular car in Egypt. Therefore, technicians have gained extensive experience in repairing it, unlike other cars, where they can identify problems simply by seeing them.

Suspension

70%

The Corolla Camel has a well-known reputation, distinctive design, and good performance, and it can easily handle the harshness of Egyptian roads. As for the suspension and assists, it is equipped with a MacPherson strut suspension for all four wheels, an anti-roll bar on the front wheels, and multi-link arms on the rear wheels. This achieves an ideal balance for passengers, comfort, and ease of handling, providing a comfortable ride. The suspension, power steering, assists, and even the pedals are smooth, and it is equipped with heavy-duty tires suitable for Egyptian use.

It is also a quiet and stable car on the road, even at high speeds, up to 140 km/h. However, after that, the car loses its well-known stability and begins to float due to its high ground clearance. It is also unstable at high speeds when facing curves.

It is also elevated off the ground, allowing it to handle bumps on the road easily without fear of scratching the interior of the car or scratching the doors when opening and closing.

Resale

90%

Reselling this car is very easy due to its well-known reputation and its price, which is not significantly affected by resale. In simple terms, it's holding its value so far because it's in demand, its price is well-known, and it's easy to sell, especially the automatic version.

The overall exterior and interior appearance of the car are elegant, making it look good even after long periods of use. Therefore, selling it is easy, and the owner doesn't lose much because it's a well-known and sought-after car.

However, its drawbacks are that the brake pads wear out quickly in the automatic version, and if the car's cassette player breaks, other devices must be disconnected for repair. The car's sheet metal body is also light, and the key only comes into the P position. Reversing is somewhat difficult due to the high rear seats, which make visibility difficult.

Security

60%

The car comes with ventilated front disc brakes and drum brakes for the rear wheels, as well as powerful headlights for greater road visibility. The original key has an electronic chip, making it the only one capable of opening it. The trunk unlock feature is also available from inside the car, protecting it from theft of its contents when the owner is not present. The car is completely insulated from the rear to prevent the car from being eaten away by the wind, which prolongs the life of the car body.

It features ABS and EBD brakes, fog lights, and a mudguard in the same color as the car. The high-quality seatbelt ensures user comfort and safety, and the car is equipped with a speed alert system that alerts drivers if they exceed 120 km/h. The car also has an airbag.

Equipment

50%
The car boasts numerous features, including: Powerful air conditioning Radio cassette player Side window control Electrically folding mirrors and power front mirrors Power steering Multiple storage compartments in the cabin The headlights are equipped with projector lens technology, which helps direct the light in one direction and prevents scattering, thus improving visibility on the road. A drawback is the absence of an RPM gauge in the XLI trim, which is available in Egypt, while it is present in the Gulf trim with the 1800cc engine. Additionally, the cassette player does not play CDs or offer MP3 playback. The 1600cc models differ from the 1300cc models in some features, including the rear seats folding down by a third. Two-thirds of a seat, a rear armrest with cup holders, front and rear ashtrays, a rear spoiler with LED stop lights, a front armrest between the seats with two storage compartments, and dashboard lighting control.
