The Japanese-originated, Indian-made Suzuki Baleno was introduced in Egypt in 2021, although it was originally scheduled to launch in 2020. The car was also known in Egypt in previous years, having been available in 2017 at prices between 300,000 and 320,000 Egyptian pounds. Previous versions appeared in Egypt in the late 1990s. The 2017 version is the same as the 2021 and 2022 versions, with minor design differences and the same engines.

It's a distinctive hatchback, not small in size, suitable for small families. It's larger than the Suzuki Swift, but it's generally considered better for young people and women due to its attractive, distinctive design and youthful touches.

The car was launched in one category in Egypt at a price of 254,000 Egyptian pounds, with a three-year or 100,000 km warranty. It returned as a 2022 model with a price increase, reaching 256,000 EGP, and prices gradually increased thereafter.

The car featured a distinctive exterior design with chrome accents, a chrome strip surrounding the front grille, and an extension of the interior lights, along with two rear spoilers and youthful touches throughout the car.

Suzuki Baleno is available in Egypt with a 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine that produces 95 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It's mated to a reliable, traditional 4-speed automatic transmission. These specifications enable it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds, with a top speed of 170 km/h.

The car's performance is good, exceeding 170 km/h, with excellent acceleration and quick acceleration. The overdrive system allows the car to increase horsepower and torque by delaying shifts, which helps in certain road situations. There are no complaints about the car's engine or transmission, as they are both reliable, thanks to the traditional engine and transmission, without any complications or AMT, Steptronic, or other features.

It also comes with a 37-liter fuel tank. The car also offers an average fuel consumption rate of 5.1 liters per 100 km, while owners claim it's much lower, considering it's both a Suzuki and an economical car. The car's drawbacks include the lack of armor at the bottom of the engine, which makes it vulnerable to shocks. The engine is also very conventional and may not offer the sporty touches that some young people are looking for.

The car is 3,995 mm long, 1,745 mm wide, and 1,470 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,520 mm and a trunk capacity of 355 liters. The large wheelbase makes the car spacious inside, evident in the rear bench, which has a very large space between it and the back of the front seats.

The car has good interior equipment, with distinctive gauges with a small screen, a main screen with chrome accents for the infotainment system with piano black accents, and a very small screen for the air conditioning. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available for the infotainment system. The interior also features a rearview camera display for reversing, although its image isn't strong, it serves its purpose. The car also features a power steering wheel that feels a bit heavy at high speeds for enhanced control. Vibrations are very noticeable due to the car's light weight, which makes sound insulation poor, especially with wind noise. The engine sound can also be heard inside the car, especially at high speeds. There's no rear center armrest, and the rear lacks air conditioning vents. However, it does feature a small center tunnel, making it easy for a third person to sit on the rear bench. There's also a rear USB port, providing ample headroom between the head and the roof. There are storage spaces in the doors, and the plastic materials in the car are economical, but the sealing isn't of the best quality. The car's air conditioning is also good, according to owners.

Spare parts for the car are available at dealerships in Egypt, as it's one of the cars that continued in production for the 2021 and 2022 models. Despite being discontinued for some time, it's expected to be reintroduced. Spare parts are also less available outside dealerships because it hasn't achieved the widespread popularity of other Suzuki models in Egypt.

Maintenance prices for the Suzuki Baleno are reasonable and good, and its periodic maintenance doesn't come with large maintenance costs. Its spare parts are reasonably priced, but slightly higher than other Suzuki cars.

The car's ground clearance is 14.5 cm, which makes it similar to that of a crossover SUV, allowing it to handle Egyptian roads and bumps comfortably without any problems, especially when loaded with passengers. The car comes with a McPherson strut front suspension and a Torsion Beam rear suspension, making it a good on-road vehicle and comfortable and flexible for both driver and passengers.

However, the higher the speed at which it travels, the less stable it is on the road due to its light weight of 932 kg. This, combined with its height, makes it light and unstable on roads at high speeds and in turns.

Suzuki Baleno's resale value is weak in Egypt, as it hasn't achieved the desired local penetration. The reason for this is its high price, as it reached the EGP 260,000 category during 2021 and 2022. It would have been better to lower its price to EGP 230,000 at most to better compete in the economical hatchback category, but its high price has reduced demand for it. The car is entering into strong competition with the Renault Sandero, Hyundai i20, Fiat Tipo Hatchback, and Toyota Yaris.

The Suzuki Baleno has a 3-star safety rating in the European safety tests, providing good protection for adults and children.
