The Peugeot 206 is a small supermini hatchback car. Sedan versions of it were also available in Egypt, but the most popular ones locally and internationally are the hatchback versions. The Peugeot 206 was manufactured globally starting in 1998 and was considered a replacement for the Peugeot 205 models and carried the code name T1 AR-EG;"> Peugeot versions were also provided 206 CC The convertible was introduced in 2000, but this version was not popular in Egypt. The sedan version was introduced globally in 2005 and was later replaced by the Peugeot 207 models. It also received a facelift in South Africa and China in 2008 in the sedan, hatchback, and station wagon versions. The Peugeot 206 achieved huge sales and was considered one of the most popular Peugeot cars worldwide, with sales exceeding 8 million units by 2012, when the car was discontinued globally. Its production continued in Iran under license for IKCO.

In Egypt, the Peugeot 206 was introduced in its most famous models between 2000 and 2008 approximately. It appeared in different versions, including the hatchback, which continued until approximately 2005, as a French product, and the sedan version, which was known to be Iranian-made, appeared until 2008. It was also known in the station wagon version in Egypt, which was more focused on the family side. Its convertible version, suitable for young people in Egypt, also appeared. The car is suitable for small families and young people, but not for large families for the hatchback version and more family-oriented for the sedan version. The Peugeot 206 came with an attractive design to compete with the Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen Polo, Seat Ibiza, and Renault Clio hatchback models.

The car was priced at 97 to 113 thousand Egyptian pounds in 2007 for the hatchback version and 115 to 143 thousand Egyptian pounds for the wagon version. 176,000 for the convertible and 87,000 to 114,000 for the sedan.

Previous versions also appeared The 1100cc hatchback engine produces 60 hp, the 1400cc produces 75 hp, and the 1600cc produces 110 hp. The 1400cc engine is front-wheel drive, and the manual version reaches a top speed of 170 km/h (100 mph). It accelerates in 12.5 seconds with a 50-liter fuel tank.

The car performs well in the 1100cc version and even better in the 1400cc version. The 1100cc engine delivers 94 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. The car's range is strong up to 120 km/h (75 mph) and its top speed exceeds 150 km/h (92 mph). However, at higher speeds, the engine noise begins to increase. The 1400cc engine delivers good performance with adequate torque to keep the car moving all the way up to third gear without any problems.

The car also achieves average fuel consumption with the larger 1600cc engines, while consumption is more economical with the smaller 1100cc and 1400cc engines.

According to owners, the car has good traction and a high level of acceleration, with the air conditioning not significantly affecting traction and speed. However, it is difficult to accelerate significantly with the air conditioning on.

While some owners have complained of transmission problems and difficulties. The car also suffered from a problem with the fuel pump, according to its owners, but they confirmed that modifications were made to the fuel pump design to solve these problems.

The interior space is average, and can accommodate a small family of four in the hatchback. The sedan and station wagon versions offer more space and a family-friendly feel, with multiple storage spaces. The front space in the hatchback is wider than the rear, with the rear seating comfortably accommodating two people. The front seats must be moved fully forward to provide comfortable footwells in the rear seats. The front seats are a bit high, which can be a problem for tall people, making the driving position feel elevated. The rear storage compartment is small in the hatchback, but these spaces are larger in the sedan and station wagon versions. The air conditioning is good, but less powerful than in Japanese cars, as their most popular models are 1100 and 1400 cc. The dashboard also features a modern design with circular gauges and a center console with ventilation holes, but its design appears dated.

As for spare parts, they were available at the dealership when it was introduced, but over time and with the change of dealership, they became scarce and difficult to find. However, they are only available at Peugeot spare parts dealers in Egypt, and I do not have any other spare parts dealers, especially since the car was discontinued many years ago. Also, spare parts are more available in Cairo than in the governorates.

Also, its prices are somewhat high, like other Peugeot cars, although they are certainly lower than the prices of spare parts for newer models. Furthermore, this car cannot be operated by just any technician and requires someone who knows how to deal with French cars.

Suspension

The car has good stability on the road despite its small size, with a heavier steering wheel as the speed increases, providing good stability in turns and at high speeds. Balance decreases after speeds of 120 km/h due to its light weight and the fact that it is a hatchback, while the sedan and station wagon are more stable on the road.

The car's suspension is soft, making it comfortable to sit in, which seems a bit strange given the car's stability on the road, according to car owners. It is also capable of handling bumpy roads.

The Peugeot 206's resale value is limited in Egypt despite being one of the best-selling Peugeot cars worldwide. This is because it hasn't achieved as much popularity in Egypt as other competing cars in the same hatchback or sedan category, while demand for the station wagon and convertible is already limited locally. The car's price can also be considered one of the factors that has limited its competition and popularity in Egypt when compared to other European models. This has made the car's resale value in Egypt very weak due to the scarcity of available models and the difficulty of selling existing models compared to other strong brands.

Despite the powerful brakes, some have complained about the brakes. The Peugeot 206 also underwent Euro NCAP safety tests and received an overall rating of 4 stars out of 5. The ratings were not taken into account for children and pedestrians, as crash tests conducted in 2000 were limited to adult occupants only and did not consider other factors. All models are also equipped with a motion stabilizer, which makes the car's structure solid and provides adequate protection for passengers from impacts. Ultimately, the car lacks modern safety features, but what it does have is reasonably priced.
