MG HS 2021 - 2023 Review

The car has a turbocharged engine that gives it outstanding performance through a combination of a 1500cc turbo engine that generates 169 hp at 5600 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1700 and 4400 rpm, and a 7-speed TST dual-clutch sports transmission for smooth shifts with front-wheel drive. This enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds, with a top speed of 190 km/h.

It also has five driving modes, switching between Eco, Normal, Sport, Super Sport, and Custom, while Sport mode provides additional speed.

The MG HS's engine is the same as the MG 6's, a very active, sporty engine that responds quickly to the slightest touch, offering outstanding sporty performance and very quick assembly.

The car's transmission is the same as the MG 6's, but it has been improved in terms of materials and programming. It offers performance that isn't very powerful, as it's somewhat slow in shifting and responsiveness, matching a traditional automatic transmission. It was manufactured this way to ensure reliability, maintain its durability, and increase its longevity. It has almost no problems, and its performance is fairly smooth, especially in the first gear.

The car is 4574 mm long, 1876 mm wide, 1685 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2720 mm. The rear trunk holds 463 cubic liters, and 1287 cubic liters with the rear seat folded.

The front seats are very spacious, with enough space for two people, and the driving position can be adjusted. The rear bench is spacious, accommodating three people comfortably, thanks to the low transmission tunnel and good head and legroom in the rear of the car.

The car's cabin has ample storage space, and the trunk holds 463 liters, which is a good storage capacity for its class, and improves with the rear seat folded.

The cabin features soft-touch materials and leather accents, as MG designers prioritized comfort and quality, with a well-designed layout of control buttons and driver assistance via a multi-function steering wheel. The cabin exudes a sense of luxury, starting with the leather-trimmed sports seats, the luxurious dashboard, the leather-trimmed shifter, and the elegant leather-trimmed steering wheel. The cabin also features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which offers a choice of 64 ambient lights, dual-zone climate control, and phone control via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The adjustable panoramic sunroof is also available with an air purification option that cleans the air in 3 minutes of bacteria, viruses, and odors.

The cabin also features cruise control, a smart entry feature, a sports driving mode button on the steering wheel, a multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, front seat heaters, electrically adjustable front seats, and a 12.3-inch smart instrument cluster.

The car's air conditioning is excellent even in extremely hot weather, cooling quickly with good air distribution. It also has an air filter that purifies the interior and detects air pollution levels.

Sound insulation is very good, isolating external sounds and air at normal speeds without the appearance of chassis noise.

The car's screen is slow to respond and needs updating, as is the slow digital instrument cluster.

The car's viewing areas are very wide, and it's suitable for families with a large panoramic sunroof. .

MG HS spare parts are well-available, albeit less so than other MG models, as the car's availability isn't very high due to its price, which is considered the highest among MG cars in Egypt. However, its availability is good, and spare parts can be found at the company's strong dealership and outside the dealership, not difficult, but at above-average to high prices.

The car has a significant ground clearance and a high center of gravity, resulting in good control when driving in a straight line. However, on fast turns, the car tilts, affecting its stability and weakening its maneuverability.

The suspension is average, not absorbing bumps and knocks as well as possible, and it's not overly stiff and uncomfortably so, rather it's medium-firm.

The car comes with precise steering, providing driving confidence and strong stability in turns, providing control at normal speeds, especially with the availability of several systems to control tilt, such as stability control.

The car comes standard with ABS, EBD, and ESP, in addition to Cornering Brake Assist (CBC), Traction Control (TCS), and HHC to support balance while climbing hills and descending slopes via the HDC system, which supports the car's stability on the road.

The car has been awarded 5 stars in European safety tests, meaning its body is strong and has scored 92% for adult protection, 81% for child protection, 64% for pedestrian protection, and 76% for safety assist.

MG cares about  Safety features are among the most prominent features of the car, including six airbags, ABS brakes, an electronic stability control (EBS), an electronic parking brake, an anti-theft system, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child seat anchors. Standard safety equipment, as well as driver assistance systems, are available from the first to the highest trim level, with the same specifications and the highest number of airbags compared to the first trim level.
