Mitsubishi Lancer Puma was launched in 2004 and continued in its form until 2012 until the emergence of the Shark models. This car is considered one of the most popular Lancer cars in Egypt, along with the Crystal, and is known as the Lancer GLX. The company’s agent at the time of its launch was a company called Masriya, and the car was launched in a way that was compatible with the specifications of the Egyptian market in terms of roads and their difficulty, the need for saving fuel consumption, and responding to the types of gasoline available in the Egyptian market. The car is considered a family car available at a reasonable price.

The car was equipped with engine modifications to comply with Egyptian specifications. It was equipped with a 1600 cc, 4-cylinder, 16-valve CVVT engine with electronic fuel injection, producing 105 hp. It was front-wheel drive, mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. This provided good traction, and overall engine performance was good—not too powerful, not too bad.

A 1300 cc, 88 hp engine was also available, which, given its small size, wasn't particularly powerful.

It also had a 5-liter fuel tank and achieved an average fuel consumption of 6.6 liters per 100 km, which is average, not too low, and could be considered one of the car's shortcomings. It also accelerated well with both transmissions and achieved good torque. The car's top speed was 200 km/h, and it accelerated to 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds.

The cabin is not well insulated, which allows for some noise to enter. Among the cabin's shortcomings is that the dashboard is not very good and is poorly equipped.

Therefore, the car's suspension is designed specifically for Egyptian roads, providing the greatest degree of stability for the car at conventional speeds and while negotiating sharp curves. However, when the speed exceeds 120 km/h, the car's ability to stabilize on the ground decreases, especially in the presence of air bumps or on turns and slopes. But on the other hand, it is raised off the ground, which protects it from friction with the bumps in the interior of the car.

However, its main flaw, according to some, is that its design has remained traditionally unchanged throughout its years of manufacture. It also has two front seat belts that can be automatically retracted and height-adjusted, three rear seat belts, a central door lock, a coded key, a stop lamp in the rear hanger, a driver airbag and an optional front passenger airbag, and optional fog lights. It also has an immobilizer system when the car is locked to prevent theft, and it comes with strong front bumpers to prevent accidents.
