Hyundai Galloper 1991-2003

The Hyundai Galloper is a large off-road SUV known in markets outside Egypt as the Mitsubishi Galloper, Hawtai Jetian, Exceed, Innovate, and Asia Galloper. It was manufactured under license by Hyundai from Mitsubishi and was produced between 1991 and 2004. It is a version of the Mitsubishi Pajero and has its own logo on the front. The first generation of the Galloper was introduced in Egypt by Al Rawas from 1991 to 2003. The second generation Galloper 2 was then introduced under license from Mitsubishi Motors. This vehicle was introduced in 2006 as a modified version of the 2001 model. This vehicle is considered one of the vehicles with off-road capabilities. This car was replaced after production was discontinued by the Hyundai Terracan.

The difference between the Hyundai Galloper Innovation and the regular model is the presence of seat heaters, ABS brakes, leather upholstery, and a similar exterior design. Both cars share the same engine, and the Innovation is not offered in Egypt, but the regular version is available.

Motor

Hyundai Galloper is offered with the same engines as the Mitsubishi Pajero, including diesel and petrol options. The first option was a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with 161 hp, manual and automatic transmissions, and a 50-50 four-wheel drive. This engine was offered in Egypt for some time, alongside a 2.5-litre diesel manual engine with up to 105 hp and 253 Nm of torque at 3,900 rpm. It also features a paddle-shift transmission, a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph), acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 16.3 seconds, and fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 km (combined), with an estimated 13.9 liters per 100 km (13.9 L/100 km) in city driving and 9.5 L/100 km (13.5 L/100 km) on highways.

The car's performance isn't bad despite its uncommonness. The engines offer balanced performance, and the gasoline version is more powerful than the diesel version. However, the car's speed is weak, and its acceleration is simple and limited compared to the engine's powerful off-road performance, which is evident in the car's high torque.

Its drawbacks are the high fuel consumption of the gasoline version, although it is much lower in the more economical diesel version.

The car's basic capacity seats five passengers, while other versions, the most widely available in Egypt, can carry seven. The car is available in a two-door, short-wheelbase version and a five-door, long-wheelbase version. The wheelbase ranges from 2,350 to 2,695 meters, while the car's length ranges from 3,945 to 4,615 meters. Its width is 1,770 meters, and its height is 1,859 meters.

The car's cabin is spacious and accommodates multiple storage spaces. The luggage space in the rear is good and can be significantly increased by folding the third row of seats. The spacious interior is suitable for long-distance trips.

The car's drawbacks are that the materials used in its construction are weak and not of the highest quality, which makes it look like a cheap SUV, with the extensive use of plastic on the dashboard.

The interior itself is not good, with an uncomfortable dashboard, especially the widely spaced gauges, which makes it difficult for the driver to see. The rearview mirror is also not very good, and the car's rear headrests obstruct the view.

Although the interior space is large, moving around is uncomfortable due to the uncomfortable seats, which lack lateral support. The third row of seats in the 5-door version is also very uncomfortable. Sometimes, some people prefer not to install the third row of seats in the car at all.

Spare Parts

50%

Hyundai Galloper spare parts are scarce in Egypt, particularly mechanical ones, due to their diesel engines. Maintenance is difficult due to technicians' lack of experience with diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, which often cause problems. The car's spare parts are shared with the Mitsubishi Pajero. External spare parts, such as lights and signals, are also not widely available. Some spare parts are imported or available from specific dealers in certain areas of Egypt, particularly in Manshiyat Nasser.

Mechanical spare parts are the same as those for the Mitsubishi Pajero.  Gasoline spare parts are faster and easier to obtain than diesel spare parts, with a significant difference in favor of the cheaper gasoline-engine versions.

The cost of maintaining the automatic transmission is also higher than that of the manual transmission.

Suspension

80%

The car has a one-piece chassis and its suspension is the same as the Mitsubishi Pajero, featuring an independent front suspension and a distinctive rear suspension. The car is well-suited for off-roading, especially in the three-door version, due to its shorter wheelbase. Some owners have noted that the suspension makes the driver feel unsafe on the road and that the ride is unstable on asphalt roads.

Ultimately, the car's suspension is dry and provides some comfort on unpaved roads. The car also has a ground clearance of 210 mm, meaning it's capable of handling off-road terrain due to its high ground clearance.

This car is considered reliable and durable, and it can accommodate five or seven passengers. The most popular is the seven-passenger version, which was popular in the 1998 model year in Egypt and was officially introduced with the Al Rawas.

Resale of the Hyundai Galloper is rare in Egypt due to the car's lack of popularity due to its diesel engine, large size, poor design, poorly designed interior, and uncomfortable seats. This car is one of the strangest cars that have appeared and disappeared from the Egyptian market without leaving a trace, despite Hyundai and Mitsubishi's collaboration in introducing it.

Some customers believe that alternatives to the Galloper are better and that the competition is fierce and difficult to handle, especially considering its competitors, such as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car loses to its competitors in terms of design, quality, and equipment.

This car's only distinction is that its price is much lower than that of its competitors. However, in Egypt, this hasn't helped it gain significant traction in the used car market; in fact, its availability is extremely limited.

The car is distinguished only by the strength of its body and exterior structure. It comes with ventilated front disc brakes and drum rear brakes, but the safety features available are very limited compared to those found in modern cars.
