Ford Kuga 2016-2019

The Ford Kuga took on a European design style, focusing on its powerful appearance. Auto Jameel, Ford's agent in Egypt, showcased the new Kuga model for the first time at the 2015 Automech Formula. The car remained available in Egypt until 2020. It is manufactured in Spain. The model competed in a segment between the EcoSport and Edge models. Based on the same platform as the Ford Focus hatchback, it competed in Egypt with the Nissan Qashqai, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru XV, and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It was distinguished by being one of the rare models to offer all-wheel drive in this class of vehicle. The car is considered a European-made model, benefits from a 0% customs discount, and offers many features in the compact sports utility crossover category. The car was offered in Egypt in four trim levels and underwent changes, including some variations in the standard trim level over the course of its existence. The car was offered as a 2019 model in Egypt at the following prices: Trend Automatic EGP 499,900 Sport Automatic EGP 574,900 Titanium Automatic EGP 649,900 ST-Line Automatic EGP 699,900 Prices also changed several times depending on the model and fluctuations in market conditions, especially with customs reductions for European cars. After customs reductions, the price came as follows: Trend Automatic EGP 414,900 M.

Sport Automatic EGP 464,900

Titanium Automatic EGP 514,900

ST-Line Automatic EGP 564,900

The ST-Line trim has the same design as the regular trim, except for some exterior features designed to distinguish this sporty trim from other Kuga models. The Ford Kuga ST was first launched in Egypt in 2018 at a price of EGP 750,000, before its price was subsequently reduced.

Reviews - Ford Kuga 2016-2019

The car is offered in Egypt with a 1.5-liter, inline-four-cylinder, turbocharged EcoBoost engine that can generate 182 hp at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that powers all four wheels, setting it apart from its competitors, as four-wheel drive is rare in this class. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds and consumes an average of 7.4 liters of fuel, reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. A manual transmission is also available via the steering wheel. It comes with a 60-liter fuel tank.

Fuel consumption figures are as follows:

E. City fuel (L/100 km) 9.3

E. Fuel consumption outside the city (l/100km) 6.2 Fuel consumption in cities and outside (l/100km): 7.4.

Advantages and disadvantages

- The car has good engine performance, but strong sporting performance is not required, as it leans more towards the family side.

- It also has intelligent all-wheel drive when needed, but it is primarily front-wheel drive, which distinguishes it in its class and gives reassurance when driving that the car will provide more propulsion and stability.

- The transmission is a traditional automatic, reliable but slow.

- Fuel consumption is relatively high, reaching 9 to 11 mpg, despite the official figures, which put it at 7.4 liters per 100 km.

- The car's acceleration figures are conventional and not outstanding, as well. Its speed - The transmission is a bit slow and conventional - The electric steering is good, but it's not responsive and loses steering feel at times.

The car is 4,524 mm long, 1,838 mm wide, and 1,689 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,690 mm. The trunk holds approximately 456 liters, increasing to 1,603 liters when the rear seats are folded. The curb weight is 1,686 kg. This generation of the car has been extended by 8.1 cm compared to the previous generation Kuga, which has helped provide additional interior space in an elegant cabin that seats five people.

The Ford Kuga boasts a distinctive interior design, filled with noticeable details and divisions, giving it a sporty character in many areas. Overall, the car is considered a suitable family car.

The car's pros and cons include: Good air conditioning, but not as powerful as the Japanese, with large vents. Good cabin insulation, with wind noise above 130 km/h, and engine noise being less noticeable as speed increases. The car offers good visibility with the driver's seat positioned high and large glass areas. Good interior upholstery. A medium-sized screen with drawbacks, including that it is outdated and its infotainment system is outdated. The screen is also difficult to control due to its depth. Defects in the design of the gear lever, which hinders air conditioning control, along with flaws in the center console and its design. Good, flexible interior materials.

Good interior storage spaces with chrome touches in some cases. Categories

Rear seat angle adjustment for added comfort

Large rear legroom with rear tables makes sitting in the back of the car comfortable, and the same applies to the front seat.

The trunk can be opened remotely by moving your foot under the rear bumper. Folding the rear seats increases capacity, but the trunk is a bit small at 456 liters, has an upper shelf, and isn't very deep.

There's no transmission tunnel to disturb rear passengers.

Spare Parts

50%
Spare parts for the car are available at the dealership's outlets, but they are expensive, not as low as other European cars. Customers also complain about the limited number of service centers, which makes maintenance difficult. Also, they are not widely available outside the dealership due to the car's uncommon popularity. Maintenance prices are moderate, and spare parts vary. The most expensive are LED units for the higher trims, which reach 14,000 Egyptian pounds. The headlights reach 25,000 Egyptian pounds for the Titanium trim for the 2020 models, and external spare parts are expensive.

Suspension

80%

The car comes with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The suspension is a bit harsh, making the ride somewhat uncomfortable, but not too uncomfortable, especially over bumps. However, it does help with stability, as the car is considered well-stabilized on the road despite being an SUV and high off the ground. It also has an anti-roll system in the rear, but there is a slight tilt and some vibrations on the road. Air bumps are also not felt.

The minimum ground clearance is 197 mm, which is a suitable height that helps it avoid bumps and friction on the road. The ST-Line trim also has a sports suspension.

The Ford Kuga is not considered a widely spread car in the market like the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage or Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, for example, but it is a car that exists and has its own market that knows and loves Ford cars. Many car owners faced major problems in reselling the car due to the significant drop in price, as some bought it for prices that reached 700 thousand pounds for the highest categories before the discounts occurred due to customs and agency discounts, which made its price drop to an average of 500 thousand pounds for the highest categories. Thus, everyone who bought the car before the discount was exposed to a huge loss when reselling.

Security

90%

The car boasts high safety specifications, having received a 5-star rating in European safety tests, making it suitable for families. The car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes on the front axle and solid disc brakes on the rear axle, along with an electric parking brake. It also comes with seven top-of-the-range airbags.

The car features powerful and distinctive safety systems, including anti-lock brakes, an electric parking brake, an electronic stability control program, a hill-start assist system, power steering, cruise control, a speed limiter, and a tire pressure sensor. Equipment also includes front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, driver knee airbags, the ability to deactivate the front passenger airbags, and a coded key.
