The BYD L3 is a compact car manufactured by the Chinese company BYD. Outside Egypt, it is known as the F5 and F3 Plus. Production began in 2010 as a four-door sedan with a front engine and front-wheel drive. The car was launched in Egypt in 2014 with an automatic transmission and was considered a modified version of the F3. The manual version was priced at EGP 88,000 at the time of its launch, while the automatic version was priced at EGP 98,000. After the rise in the dollar price in 2016, the price of the manual version of the 2017 model jumped to EGP 145,000, and the automatic version increased to EGP 160,000.

The car features a 1.5-liter, 16-valve, water-cooled OHC engine that produces 108 hp at 5,800 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. The engine is equipped with a multi-point electronic fuel injection system and is mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. This enables the car to reach a top speed of 170 km/h with a 50-liter fuel tank.

The car offers a controversial acceleration rate that ranges from weak to good, depending on opinions. The engine sound is good, and the cabin insulation from the outside is also in good condition. The engine is also fuel-efficient and economical, as it is built on Japanese technology from Honda. Therefore, it achieves adequate performance and a longer lifespan, although it is not without problems.

There are widespread complaints about the car's automatic transmission and engine start button defects. However, these defects were present in the 2015 model year and were addressed, with subsequent models being free of these problems.

There are also widespread complaints about the car's engine clattering in first and second gears. The company recommends using 95-octane gasoline to address this problem, which has been a problem for many owners due to the high price of this gasoline. There is also a problem with the car's weak torque, while some have complained about slow assembly and the effect of the air conditioning on the car's traction. This ultimately leads to a significant variation in the car's overall performance, with many mechanical problems, including those related to the engine and transmission.

Some of the interior plastic materials are not good, especially in the doors. However, the car is comfortable inside, and the seating is good, with leather seats that can be adjusted for height. The car's air conditioning is also good. Despite the narrowness of the front drawer, the storage spaces in the armrest make up for this, along with storage spaces in the doors, good interior lighting, and light control with a pulley. The trunk is spacious and the cassette player and speakers sound good.
