Volkswagen Passat 2020-2022

The eighth generation of the Volkswagen Passat was introduced in Egypt from 2017 until 2020. The facelifted version was introduced in 2020 and is still available today. It was offered at a starting price of EGP 485,000 to EGP 585,000. It was available in two trim levels: Trendline Plus and Comfortline. The former was introduced first in Egypt, while the latter was delayed a few months before being launched locally. The 2022 R-Line trim was then launched, priced at EGP 630,000 at the time of its launch. The car features a distinctive front design with sharp silver elements extending across the grille and connecting the LED headlights. The lower front half features large LED fog lights on both sides, with a thick black frame connecting them, extending across the width of the front, and featuring the distinctive lower grille. The car is known for its simple and elegant design in general, especially at the rear, with LED taillights and Passat lettering at the rear, along with two rectangular exhaust outlets, one on each side, and chrome accents. It also received limited design changes, including bumpers and full LED headlights, replacing the previous model.

Reviews - Volkswagen Passat 2020-2022

Motor

80%
The Volkswagen Passat comes with a more powerful 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine than the pre-facelift version, with the engine's output modified to match the Volkswagen Tiguan's engines. It produces 150 hp between 1,500 and 6,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm, mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.1 liters per 100 km, with a 60-liter fuel tank.

The new, improved engine delivers additional power, increasing its output by 25 hp over the pre-facelift version. This is reflected in the car's performance. The same applies to torque, which has also increased by 50 Nm.

The car achieves good fuel consumption, especially on highways, with strong and rapid acceleration, especially in the Sport driving mode, in addition to the car's precise steering. The car's engine is dynamic and efficient, and the new transmission is trouble-free despite its previous reputation, but it can be said that this reputation has begun to fade.

The Volkswagen Passat measures 4,667 mm in length, 1,832 mm in width, and 1,745 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. These dimensions are considered large for the car, providing it with good interior spaciousness and seating for five passengers. The car's curb weight is 1,950 kg. It offers good headroom for passengers in the front and rear, with 1,034 mm and 964 mm, respectively. Legroom in the front is 1,045 mm, and in the rear is 973 mm. The car comes with a trunk with a storage capacity of 586 liters. The car has a large wheelbase, providing good rear legroom between the rear passengers and the front seats, with ample storage space in the doors. Its drawbacks are the high center tunnel for the gearbox, which makes it difficult to sit in the center of the rear seat. It also has a large trunk, which is smaller than its competitor, the Skoda Superb, although loading it is somewhat difficult due to the height of the trunk. The car features good interior materials, ranging from fabric on the doors to good rubber and plastic trim, along with generous front storage space, a leather steering wheel, and comfortable seats. The interior features powerful automatic air conditioning, a good infotainment screen, aluminum accents, cup holders, and storage spaces in the center armrest. The engine noise is also well insulated from the well-insulated cabin, and the air conditioning is excellent. The car offers good visibility thanks to the large glass areas and mirrors.

Spare Parts

70%

Spare parts for the Volkswagen Passat are available, but their prices are somewhat high, like many European cars, especially German ones. Spare parts for newer generations of Passats are also more expensive than older generations, but they are durable, thanks to the availability of service centers and the high cost of periodic maintenance for many maintenance services from the dealer.

Periodic maintenance prices for the car are somewhat high, with maintenance at 10,000 km, 20,000 km, and 40,000 km being average, while maintenance at 30,000 km and 50,000 km is higher, and the 60,000 km maintenance is much higher. Sunroof maintenance is also available separately, at a cost that reached EGP 1,800 in 2021, for every 15,000 km or annually.

Suspension

80%

The car comes with a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension. It has a softer suspension than the Superb models, with some roll at high speeds. It also absorbs bumps well on its 16-inch tires and handles bumps well in Egypt due to its 14.5 cm ground clearance.

Resale

70%
The resale value of the Volkswagen Passat is average because it is a European car and because the price of its spare parts is a problem for many buyers compared to other Korean and Japanese cars. yes;"> Besides the reputation of the DSG, which makes many people refrain from Buy it. The car's price is also very high compared to the most popular sedan car categories in Egypt, the compact and small categories.

Security

100%
The model also focused on safety, as its equipment far exceeds what many competitors have in their higher-equipped versions.
