Skoda Roomster 2007-2015

The Skoda Roomster made its global debut as a concept model with the same name at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003. It closely resembled the production Roomster in terms of shape, concept, and design, with sportier specifications. In 2005, another concept model, the Yeti, was introduced with a different design. The Roomster was introduced in Egypt in 2007 at the Formula Al Ahram 2007 exhibition and remained available in Egypt until 2015. The car is considered a multi-purpose MPV, and the Fabia also shares some of its design features. The car featured a less sharp front fascia with chrome accents in longitudinal lines parallel to the lower air vent, medium-sized headlights resembling a leaf, and special fog lights. The car also featured large glass areas, concealed rear door handles, and two-tone longitudinal taillights. The car was available in Egypt in Classic, Style, Sport, and Comfort trims. It was introduced in 2007, starting at EGP 120,000 for the first trim, EGP 140,000 for the second and third trims, and EGP 158,000 for the fourth trim.

The car is powered by a 1.6-liter, 105-horsepower engine, more powerful than the Octavia A5's engine, despite being the same. It produces 153 Nm of torque and accelerates to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds for the manual and 12.5 seconds for the automatic. The manual version tops out at 184 km/h, while the automatic version tops out at 179 km/h. The Roomster's engine is a 16-valve, four-cylinder, double-overhead camshaft engine. The transmission is a 5-speed manual in the Classic, Style, and Sport versions, and a 6-speed Steptronic in the Style and Comfort versions. However, fuel consumption is somewhat high, averaging between 8 and 7.5 liters per 100 km.

The car starts off smoothly, and acceleration is slow at first until the first 30 km, but thereafter, acceleration increases and is better in the automatic version. The engine sound is somewhat harsh, clearly and powerfully apparent. There are no general complaints about the car's engine, as it is not a fast-performing engine because the car is ultimately a family car and not a sports car.

The car has a length of 4.205 meters, a width of 1.684 meters, and a height of 1.607 meters. The car comes with a rear door that opens at a wide angle for easy loading. The Roomster, a name inspired by the word "room," means spacious. It seats five people and has a wheelbase of 2.617 meters. The rear seats can be slid forward and backward, or one can be removed to create a limousine that seats four people.

The car is considered spacious, but less spacious than some of its competitors. However, it also offers higher-quality sealing, and the cabin is well-insulated.

Some models feature a panoramic glass roof, which provides more light to the cabin. The Ster versions also feature chrome-finished air conditioning outlets, separate air conditioning on top of the dashboard, an audio system below, four gauges integrated into two units, a trip computer, a door-opening indicator, a four-spoke or three-spoke steering wheel, and multiple storage spaces. This practical car comes with a trunk that can hold 450 liters and up to 1,780 liters with the seats folded down. The car has a trunk net for storing items and a roof rack for loading. The functions are easy to control and the information is clear, with the computer controlling the various functions.

Spare Parts

70%

Although it is a European car, its maintenance prices are better than other competitors because some parts are replaced during periodic maintenance at longer intervals than competitors. Also, its spare parts prices are close to Korean competitors, although the ease of repair is better for some competing Korean cars, with the availability of more service centers and the greater spread of its spare parts, as Roomster spare parts are not widespread, although many of them are like the Fabia.

Suspension

80%

The suspension is stiff and makes the ride uncomfortable, but at the same time it keeps the car stable on the road, especially at high speeds. Thus, the car's suspension is neither very soft nor very dry, which is very uncomfortable. The car is also good at handling maneuvers and turns, despite being a high-riding car.

Resale

50%

The resale price of the car is not good because it is not a widely used car in Egypt like the Hyundai Matrix or Kia Carens, although their owners confirm that it is better in terms of space, quality, and safety features. However, it has not achieved as wide a spread as Korean cars because it is a European car and the reputation of European cars is known for the high prices of spare parts and the lack of availability. In addition, resale is difficult, especially since the car has recently arrived in Egypt in a category that is not widely used and did not have a well-known name before, like the Octavia models, for example.
