Skoda Octavia A7 2014 - 2018 Review

The car was powered by a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine with 140 hp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. Fuel consumption is 5.4 liters per 100 km, providing good acceleration in 9 seconds to 100 km/h.

The car was later offered with a 1.6-liter MPI engine with 110 hp and 155 Nm of torque, mated to a Steptronic transmission. This was an attempt to overcome the transmission issues associated with the previous 1.4-liter engine. The DSG transmission was replaced by a conventional automatic transmission. This engine accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 12 seconds.

The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine contributes to lower fuel consumption, as fuel consumption in the new generation Octavia has been reduced to the lowest possible level compared to previous generations of Octavia. The engine is available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Steptronic transmission provides smooth gear shifting without passengers feeling any vibrations or shifts.

 The car suffered from several problems, including:

- It suffered from the well-known DSG transmission problems with the 1.4-liter engine. Many confirmed the presence of problems with the transmission, despite the company's confirmation that the transmission had been modified from previous Volkswagen models and that the problems had been addressed. However, the transmission's reputation ruined sales of the 1.4-liter version of the car in Egypt, forcing the company to offer a version with a different engine similar to the previous engine in the second-generation Fantasia. Overall, the performance of this 1.4-liter engine appears to be decent, especially with the turbocharger, which provides the car with high performance, greater power, and excellent acceleration. Fuel consumption for this engine is within reasonable limits, and no reports of carbon buildup have been heard.

- A number of car owners reported that the car had problems with traction when using the air conditioning. This reduces the car's acceleration.

- The 1600 cc engine with the automatic transmission has not been reported to cause problems, as was the case with the 1400 cc engine, which many were afraid to buy because of its transmission.

The increased dimensions of the car help provide comfortable seating for passengers, especially those in the rear seats, as the space allocated to them has increased by approximately 17 cm compared to the previous generation. The luggage compartment space has also increased to 590 liters, reaching 1,580 liters with the rear seats folded. The car is based on the new Modular Qubit (MQB) platform, which provides a spacious cabin. Compared to the previous generation, the wheelbase is 108 mm longer. The interior of this third-generation Octavia is larger than the previous generation, the Fantasia, and more spacious, with numerous interior upgrades, including new technology and a new navigation system. The interior design also bears inspiration from the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, and Passat, with numerous chrome accents and high-quality materials. The car's dashboard features a computer and gauges that give a luxurious driving experience, leather upholstery, and ample rear trunk space.

The gauges are easy to read, the steering wheel fits the driver's hands, and there's enough space in the back for three passengers. The Octavia A7 has achieved standards of comfort and driving enjoyment thanks to the ability to connect and control a mobile phone, provide a phone holder, multiple storage spaces inside the cabin, a rear seat armrest with a built-in cup holder, a parking assist device, and a multi-function touchscreen to ensure the driver's focus isn't distracted from the road while driving. It also features a Bolero audio system, a multi-function steering wheel covered in premium leather, dual-zone climate control with an engine start/stop button, and an electrically adjustable driver's seat with a memory function to save the driver's preferred driving positions.

Spare parts prices for the third-generation Skoda Octavia A7 are no different from those for other Skoda models. Skoda spare parts are known to be inexpensive, as they are considered European cars. Therefore, their prices are not cheap. However, compared to the segments that buy the car, prices are considered average and not exorbitant compared to Volkswagen models or other higher-end European models. However, at the same time, prices are not very high compared to Korean-made cars, which are similar in price to Skoda spare parts.

Prices for some spare parts in 2016 were: Mirror: 5,000 EGP - Front and rear bumpers: 3,500 and 2,900 EGP - Front brake pads: 1,200 EGP - Steering wheel airbags: 7,000 EGP - Headlight: 2,400 EGP - Rear light: 1,655 EGP.

The car has a good suspension that helps it maintain stability during high-speed maneuvers. The new suspension is different from the Fantasia, as we explained, and includes a torsion beam suspension. Previously, it was a multi-link suspension.

A number of car owners say that the suspension is dry, causing some back pain and making bumps more noticeable. However, at the same time, this suspension provides greater stability on the road. The increased length and wheelbase also increase stability at high speeds and reduce float.

The car also has a low ground clearance of 155 mm, a decrease of approximately 9 mm from the previous model. The suspension has a good service life.

The car was offered at a price of 190,000 EGP when it was launched, reaching 264,000 EGP, which is a reasonable price considering its capabilities. It is considered one of the cars that has achieved good resale value so far, and a good resale price, as the car does not lose its value significantly due to the name of the Octavia models, especially for the car category with the 1600 cc engine, as its reputation is lower than the 1400 cc turbo engine with the DSG transmission. The spread of Skoda cars in Egypt is considered a reason for the ease of reselling the car compared to some of its less popular competitors.
