This car is known abroad as the Geely HQ and in Egypt as the Geely Fruta. It was launched in the Egyptian market in 2004, although its global production began in 1998. It is considered Geely's first product and is based on the Daihatsu Charade models, as it uses the same production platform after Geely obtained a license for this from the Tianjin FAW Company. The car received an upgraded version in 2003 and appeared at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in 2005 alongside newer models such as the Geely MR, CK, CD, and Maple Marindo.

The car comes with a 1000cc engine, a Japanese Daihatsu Charade engine that saves fuel. It features electronic fuel injection and Japanese technology. Spare parts for the car are cheap but their availability is good to some extent but not as easy and widespread as for other models and the main reason is the discontinuation of production and offering of the car in Egypt but a large percentage of Geely Frote spare parts are the same as Daihatsu Charade spare parts and are available at Japanese auto parts dealers. Among the few available parts is the air filter but the Toyota Corona air filter from the 1990s models can be used. As for repair and maintenance, it is easy to maintain without complications and therefore technicians can work on it without problems.
