Ghabbour Auto, Geely's agent in Egypt, introduced the Imperial compact sedan model last year for the first time in Egypt at the 2018 Automech Formula exhibition. It has been on the Egyptian market for about a year now, but it hasn't undergone extensive testing and there aren't many details about it. However, it's important to know what's available regarding its capabilities and potential.

The Imperial is the new version of the Geely Emgrand 7 model, featuring some updates to the exterior and design, as well as interior modifications and an automatic transmission. The car was first introduced in Egypt at a price of EGP 285,000. The price was reduced a few days after its launch to EGP 275,000, with only one version available in Egypt. The price later reached EGP 276,900.

The car features a 1500cc, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine that produces 102 hp between 6,000 and 6,200 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 4,400 rpm. It is mated to a CVT automatic transmission, transmitting power to the front wheels. The engine achieves a fuel consumption of 7.2 liters per 100 km, which means it is not a very fuel-efficient engine. The car also comes with a 50-liter fuel tank.

The car's engine performs well, making it suitable for this class of car, and is not much different from the Geely Emgrand 7's engine in terms of power and performance. However, the car features a CVT automatic transmission, something not available in the Emgrand 7, which only came with a manual transmission.

Therefore, the car's engine is considered to be performing well for this class of car. It's not the right engine for sporty performance and high-speed acceleration, but it's adequate for what's required of it in this class of family car. The car also features an automatic transmission compared to the Emgrand 7.

The car is 4.631 meters long, 1.789 meters wide, and 1.479 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.650 meters. The car weighs 1325 kg and can accommodate a rear storage capacity of 680 liters. The interior has been improved over the Emgrand 7 models, with improved design, more leather accents, and a sportier feel. The rear storage space is also large, significantly outperforming the previous Emgrand 7, and it stands out from its competitors in terms of rear storage. The car is considered a family-friendly vehicle in terms of spaciousness, with seating for up to five passengers.

Among the car's most important features is the steering wheel, which provides easy and smooth control for drivers, along with audio control buttons on the steering wheel. The car also comes with fully electric windows, making it easy to operate. It also has a DVD player with MP3 capability, an AUX port for connecting a mobile phone to the car, and Bluetooth for transferring files from the car to the phone and vice versa. It also comes with automatic air conditioning and rear window heaters.

The car features front and rear headrests, front armrests, and cup holders in the front. It also features an engine start/stop button instead of a traditional key, and the rear seats can be folded to increase the trunk's storage capacity.

The car's drawback is the lack of electric seat adjustment, which is manual only. However, the cabin is generally better designed in all aspects than the Emgrand 7, and has a modern design with good interior spaciousness, typical for this class. It's not particularly spacious, but what distinguishes it is the leading-edge trunk capacity and numerous interior features.

The car is considered new on Egyptian roads, but in the end, it belongs to Ghabbour Company, whose spare parts are widely available in Egypt. It is also considered an upgraded version of the Geely Emgrand 7, and therefore its spare parts are easy to replace with the Emgrand. However, there are different parts, especially in the exterior of the car, compared to the Emgrand 7. Geely spare parts are generally suitable because they are Chinese spare parts, in addition to their availability in the market at the agent and imported. Therefore, there is no fear of buying the car because of its spare parts, due to the agency’s reputation, the spread of Geely cars, and the lack of major differences between the Imperial and the Geely Emgrand 7.

The car comes with an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a semi-independent Torigenbeam rear suspension that provides good balance, especially on curves and at high speeds, with the brakes able to quickly respond to sudden stops. The car's ground clearance of 167 mm also makes it somewhat suitable for handling roads and avoiding bumps.

It seems that the car will be the next alternative to the Geely Emgrand 7, which was known for achieving large sales in Egypt and is easy to resell in the Egyptian market and has a large market. Therefore, it is expected that the Imperial will be at the same level as an alternative to the Emgrand 7, as it is expected to be easy to sell with its spread in the market. However, until now, the Emgrand 7 name is still dominant and the car needs more time to prove itself in the market, especially if the company stops offering the Emgrand 7, leaving the only new option as the Imperial, and then the car’s shares will rise even more.
