For a week: Closure of the regional ring road between the desert road and the Suez Road
New visit to the Regional Ring Road after repeated accidents
Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, attended by Major General Maged Abdel Hamid, Deputy Minister of Transport for Land Transport and in charge of supervising the development of the Regional Ring Road, Major General Amgad Anwar, Director General of the General Traffic Department, and a number of engineering professors from Ain Shams, Cairo, and Zagazig Universities, visited the Regional Ring Road to study the presidential directives regarding the possibility of closing the Regional Ring Road in areas undergoing efficiency and maintenance work until the completion of these works, in order to preserve the lives of citizens. The tour included a visit to all sectors along the distance from the intersection of the Regional Ring Road with the Cairo-Suez Desert Road to the intersection of the Regional Ring Road with the Alexandria Desert Road, to discuss possible alternatives to increase traffic safety factors during the ongoing maintenance work along this distance, to follow up on the implementation of the compressed timetables, and to direct the completion of all work in accordance with these programs. .
Safety of the Regional Road in Terms of Design and Implementation
Following this, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, chaired a discussion session attended by all the aforementioned parties. He listened to the opinions of consultants, all concerned parties, and those responsible for implementation. The results of the session were as follows:
1- Committee members from road consultants at Cairo, Ain Shams, and Zagazig Universities confirmed the safety of the design and implementation of the Regional Ring Road, and the absence of any weaknesses in the design or implementation that could lead to accidents.
Maintenance work on the Regional Ring Road is normal, given that six years have passed since its completion.
2- Construction of the road began in 2012, with the first phase completed in 2013, and the entire road was completed in 2017. 2018, which required the implementation of extensive maintenance, especially in the sectors affected by high loads of heavy transport, and the Advisory Committee recommended implementing these sectors with concrete paving, which is characterized by its ability to withstand high loads. Its raw materials and raw materials are available in Egyptian factories and quarries and are sold in Egyptian pounds.
Temporary closure of the Regional Ring Road for a week in one sector
3- Temporary complete closure of traffic coming from the intersection of the Regional Road with the Alexandria Desert Road to the intersection of the Regional Road with the Suez Desert Road for a week starting at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. This is to support, improve, and raise the efficiency of traffic control and safety measures for temporary diversions, maintain these diversions, and intensify the installation of guidance and warning signs and speed limiters. Traffic density distribution on alternative roads will be reviewed at the beginning of the closure week.

The General Traffic Department will continue to support Traffic services on the road to ensure traffic flow, while drug detection campaigns continue.”
